Hoogekraal Primary, Glentana, 22 January 2026

Agri Vision Foundation postponed the planned follow-up visits to

Hoogekraal Primary School  on 18 December 2025 due to a change in headmasters and the school holiday timing. We returned on 22 January 2026 to meet the new headmaster, Mrs. Meagan van den Merwe, and continue supporting the thriving garden project.

A group of boys worked alongside us throughout the day. We began by harvesting produce from the first planting—baby marrows, carrots, and pumpkins—which provided a joyful first taste of success for the school feeding scheme. Our team then pulled weeds, tidied all three existing gardens, and re-sowed them with green beans and additional baby marrows to catch up on the season.
While local pheasants competed for the produce, we prepared a new fourth garden (3m x 5m) from scratch. We planted it with kale, cabbage, and green beans and sowed two trays of seedlings for future transplants. After thoroughly watering everything, we assisted with maintenance on the extra gardens the school had created independently.
The boys showed genuine enthusiasm despite personal challenges. During our time together, we shared meaningful conversations about working hard, nurturing relationships, and showing respect. We prayed for the boys, and the group prayed together to give thanks for the harvest.
Although a dedicated garden coordinator has not yet been appointed, a temporary teacher expressed keen interest in the role. Additionally, Correctional Services offered regular Saturday help to clear bushes and weeds. The school maintains full responsibility for ongoing maintenance, and we have scheduled one more garden in five weeks, with another following six weeks later. Some boys are now emerging as strong advocates for the project.
