On 4 September 2026 AgriVision Foundation visited Pastor Thando in Zithulele and celebrated the remarkable progress he has made in just over a year of farming. From the beginning it was clear that Thando has green fingers, and he has consistently used his garden as a powerful way to build trust and meaningful relationships within the community.

This season his garden was truly magnificent. By following a no-till approach he produced some of the most beautiful cabbages we have seen. Throughout the growing period we advised him on making his own organic sprays to combat insects and mould; these natural remedies worked wonders and left his cabbages in pristine condition.

During the visit we focused on practical ways to scale his farming. Thando has additional fallow land available, and together we discussed how to approach this new project, including methods for producing sufficient compost.

Fresh seed kindly sponsored by Enza Zaden was provided for his current garden. Thando and the broader church community are also in the early planning stages of establishing a new community garden nearby that will involve many more members.

A special highlight of the day was being introduced to the chief of Zithulele. We discussed the vital importance of agriculture in the area, and the chief warmly gave his blessing and support for future projects. Through Thando’s strong community relationships we were also able to visit two other local farmers and offer practical advice on their gardens.

Being part of Thando’s journey is a true blessing. It beautifully illustrates how agriculture can simultaneously feed the hungry, build trust, and open doors for deeper community engagement. AgriVision Foundation remains committed to walking alongside Pastor Thando as he continues to grow both crops and people through faith-filled, sustainable farming.
